Schola Viva

Digital preservation policy

1. Introduction
Schola Viva Journal recognizes the importance of ensuring long-term preservation of its
digital content, both academic and cultural. This policy sets out the principles and
procedures that guide the preservation of their publications, ensuring their future
accessibility.

2. Objective
The central purpose is to protect the integrity, authenticity and availability of the articles,
images, data and complementary materials published in the journal, avoiding the loss of
information due to technological obsolescence or deterioration of digital media.

3. Scope
The policy applies to all digital content generated by the journal: complete issues,
individual articles, metadata, graphic material, multimedia and administrative documents
related to editorial management.

4. Guiding principles
Digital preservation is based on principles of transparency, sustainability, interoperability
and open access. The aim is to ensure that materials can be consulted without undue
restrictions and that their academic value is maintained.

5. Preservation strategies
Strategies such as using standardized formats (PDF/A, XML, TIFF), replication on
multiple servers, periodic migration of files to new platforms and integrity verification by
checksums are adopted.

6. Technological infrastructure
The journal employs institutional repositories and reliable storage services, with
redundant backups. Priority is given to the use of systems compatible with international
standards for digital preservation, such as OAIS (Open Archival Information System).

7. Responsibilities
The editorial board and technical staff of the journal are responsible for implementing
this policy. Specific functions are assigned for metadata management, backup
monitoring and preservation protocol update.

8. Access and availability
The preserved content will be available to the academic community and the general
public, respecting copyrights and licenses. Open access will be promoted as an
essential principle of knowledge dissemination.

9. Evaluation and continuous improvement
The policy will be reviewed periodically to adapt to new technologies and international
best practices. Internal audits shall be established to verify the effectiveness of
preservation measures.

10. Institutional commitment
Schola Viva Journal reaffirms its commitment to academic and cultural memory,
ensuring that its digital publications remain accessible, reliable and useful for present
and future generations.
