Abstract

In an increasingly globalized world, the learning of foreign languages has become essential, particularly within the context of Cuban education, where it is vital to develop oral and written communication skills. This qualitative study focused on the theoretical characterization of these skills through the analysis of historical trends and relevant theoretical contributions. The theoretical methods applied allowed to reveal significant inconsistencies in the teaching of foreign languages, such as the lack of integration of communicative skills, insufficient contextualization of content, and the need for ongoing teacher training. Additionally, opportunities were identified for incorporating educational technologies and innovative didactic approaches that enhance intercultural communicative competence. From a critical perspective, the study underscores the importance of transforming traditional approaches, suggesting models that promote interactivity and contextualized learning, which are essential in a globalized and multicultural environment. In conclusion, the study highlights the urgency of reconfiguring the educational process in Cuba to address deficiencies and seize opportunities, with the aim of developing effective and relevant intercultural communicative competence to meet current global challenges.
