Abstract

Contemporary History operates in a scientific environment characterized by the circulation of concepts, methods, sources and technologies across disciplinary boundaries. This article critically examines the main theoretical and methodological convergences underlying interdisciplinary historical research in the twenty-first century and proposes an integrative framework that preserves the epistemological specificity of the discipline. Aqualitative theoretical-documentary study was conducted through a critical and integrative review of classical and contemporary literature, with particular emphasis on publications from 2021 to 2026 addressing historical sociology, historical psychology, memory studies, conceptual history and digital humanities. Five dimensions were identified: temporality, structure, subjectivity, memory and meanings, and data and mediations. These dimensions are systematized in the HISTORIA-5D Model, conceived as a heuristic architecture for incorporating interdisciplinary contributions without replacing source criticism, contextualization and the explanation of temporal change. The findings indicate that interdisciplinarity is scientifically productive when the historical question is explicit, evidence is hierarchized, and theoretical categories are coherently integrated. The study also identifies risks associated with eclecticism, anachronism, psychologization, structural reductionism and digital fetishism. It concludes that interdisciplinary openness strengthens History when it expands explanatory capacity without dissolving its methodological core and when digital tools and artificial intelligence are used under criteria of traceability, criticism and historiographical control.
